Decanting cradles were traditionally made of woven wicker and featured a handle over the top for transporting the bottle from the cellar to the table. The wine basket design originates in England in the early 1800's. Cradles are meant to handle bottles gently prior to serving, and prevent sediment from entering the glass during service. The basket design evolved, and wire decanting cradles plated in sterling silver were produced by French tableware companies starting in the 1920's.
20+ year old wines that have been laying on their side in the cellar often have visible sediment on the side or shoulder. Using a decanting cradle (and a light source) during decanting can help to prevent sediment from entering the decanter or glass.
VinSling modernizes this experience with a design that brings bottles to the table with care and flair, but serves the purpose of the traditional tool.
We offer a modern and sleek form that is well balanced, lightweight and fits with today's table décor. Vinsling brings style to the practice of properly serving a well aged bottle of fine wine, yet retains the traditional method of service.
Don't limit yourself to using VinSling with older wines. Any wine that is bottled "unfiltered" or "unfined" can benefit from the use of a cradle. If sediment may be present, it is wise to carefully decant and leave the sediment in the bottle.
